DRY NEEDLING / ACUPUNCTURE
As part of a comprehensive treatment plan, your Physiotherapist at ANCHALA HEALTHCARE may offer dry needling or acupuncture. Depending on the specific points chosen, and technique used, dry needling and acupuncture can:
- relieve pain
- reduce inflammation
- improve local immune and healing responses
- relax muscle tension and overactivity
Dry needling and acupuncture are similar – they both involve inserting very fine needles into the skin or surface muscles to stimulate the body’s own pain relief system. Dry needling is a technique that inserts these needles at muscular ‘trigger points’.
Acupuncture refers to a broader scope of techniques, based upon traditional Chinese medicine, involving inserting the needles to stimulate the flow of energy (or chi) through meridian channels. These techniques can be an effective adjunct to the other techniques and modalities utilized by your Physiotherapist.
Physiotherapists at ANCHALA HEALTHCARE who perform dry needling or acupuncture have undertaken further study and qualifications. We always gain your verbal and written consent prior to treatment. Sterile, single use needles are used and we dispose of these responsibly.
Dry needling and acupuncture are used as one part of a comprehensive treatment plan that also involves hands-on mobilisation, exercise and other techniques.
